This project is my love letter of images for my home. The location of “home” is Bukidnon in Mindanao, Philippines. It is a province of rolling grasslands inhabited by the Bukidnon and Manobo tribes and migrant settlers. The vision is to produce a Book and Exhibit simultaneously with current and archived photos. These images are a collection of photos of my family and home as the details and surroundings of my youth are where they stand today. Now, I am convinced. This is the time to bring all these together with one more trip home this coming winter and the creation of the first draft “Bukidnon My Home: Project 1”.
NOSTALGIA is the driving force of this project as I, a photographer, have always drawn from my soul when I capture my subjects. It is something so personal. That child-like curiosity of my youth is my most precious gift as I look through a lens and I never want to lose this.
Through this Book and Exhibit, I want to awaken in my audience the ability for them to be able to reflect into their own hearts and re-connect. Their personal journey may be able to highlight what is important for a meaningful existence. This is the experience I wish to share.
This project will be a reminder to myself of what was inside my soul when one day life has taken its course with my body and abilities and I will surrender with gratitude when I gaze at these photos.
